The fee for teachers/practitioners is 50€ and the (reduced) fee for students is 30€. Hot and cold drinks and a warm lunch are included.

The pre-conference dinner will be held on Friday 12 May in
Q-West: a modern restaurant serving a wide range of international food at affordable prices and located on the university campus.

English for Specific Academic Purposes Conference 2017 at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum Language Centre (ZFA)

The ZFA hosted an ESAP conference on 13 May 2017. The topic of the conference was: Writing for Specific Academic Purposes with a particular focus on the importance of the practitioner in the writing process.

We plan to continue the ESAP Conference Series in May/June 2019! Details will follow on this website and via usual communication channels.

Keynote Lectures

We are honoured that the following two internationally renowned keynote speakers have accepted our invitation to present at the event:

Hilary Glasman-Deal, lecturer at the Centre for Academic English, Imperial College London and author of the book Science Research Writing for Non-Native Speakers of English.

Tim Skern, lecturer and researcher at the Medical University of Vienna and author of the book Writing Scientific English: A Workbook.

Call for Papers

The deadline for submissions of abstracts has now passed.

Should you wish to submit your proposal and be put on the waiting list (for unforseen cases such as illness etc), please feel free to submit your abstract to

We welcome proposals for either of two formats: presentations or workshops* and ask that you include the following:

• Title (max. 10 words)
• Name(s) of speakers
• Your preferred format (presentation / workshop)*
• The conference strand (see diagram below)
• Length: max. 200 words

*Please note the following before submitting:

Presentations: Total time 40 mins, including: 25 mins presentation+ 15 mins discussion.
Workshops: Total time 50 mins, including: impulse presentation (10 mins) + group work.
